Dr. Heidi Julien

Professor and Director Heidi Julien focuses her research on human information behavior (how people think about, access, and use information) and information literacy (the set of skills, knowledge and attitudes that facilitate efficient, effective, and ethical information access, evaluation, and use).
Dr. Julien joined the SLIS faculty in 2011. Previous to her appointment she taught at the School of Library & Information Studies at the University of Alberta, the School of Information Management at Dalhousie University, and the School of Information Management at Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand). Dr. Julien earned her B.Ed. and M.L.I.S. degrees from the University of Alberta and her Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario in 1997.
Dr. Julien’s research has been published in the fields’ top journals, including the Journal of the American Society for Information Science & Technology, Information Processing & Management, Journal of Documentation, and Library & Information Science Research, and she regularly presents her work at international conferences. She is a member of the editorial boards of Library & Information Science Research and Cosmopolitan Civil Societies: An Interdisciplinary Journal, and is a former editor of the Canadian Journal of Information and Library Science. Dr. Julien is active in the Association for Library & Information Science Education, and the American Society for Information Science & Technology.
