Software Resources
All computers in the SLIS labs and in the Materials Center have:
Internet access
Standard software applications for PC's, including Microsoft® Office:
Word (word processing)
Excel (spreadsheets)
PowerPoint (presentations)
Outlook (email).
Specialized Software
In addition, SLIS makes additional software applications available to you. These specialized programs may be useful to you for completing projects and assignments during your student career at SLIS. In fact, you will be required to learn to use certain of these programs in your coursework.
Learning to use these applications can also be an important part of your preparation for a career in library and information science professions.
Adobe Acrobat
Adobe® Acrobat® creates Portable Document Format (PDF) files from Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and other files. PDF files look like the original documents and preserve the fonts, images, graphics, and layout of the source file, and can be emailed or posted to web pages.

Adobe PhotoShop
Computers in the Materials Center have Adobe® PhotoShop®. Create images and tweak digital images for web pages or class presentations.

Dreamweaver
Macromedia's Dreamweaver MX 2004 is a professional HTML editor for designing, coding, and developing websites, web pages, and web applications. Dreamweaver accomodates users who prefer HTML coding and those who prefer a visual design environment.

Endnote
Endnote® is a multifunction tool, enabling users to search online databases, store the results for later, and to actually 'Cite While You Write', helping users format citations and generate bibliographies for research papers.

Homesite
Homesite is a simple HTML editor that comes bundled with Dreamweaver. It is especially useful as a learning tool, as it uses many of the same key combinations to code HTML documents as those used in Microsoft Office.

SPSS
SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) is a powerful data collection and analysis package. This application is used by many library and information science researchers.
