Online MLIS Course Requirements

The M.L.I.S. degree program requires a minimum
of 36-semester hours of credit. Students must complete all
work with a grade average of "B" or better. There is a thesis and a non-thesis option for the degree.

As part of the minimum 36-hours of credit, students must complete
the following required courses:


LS 500 Organization of Information

LS 501 Introduction to Library and Information Studies

LS 502 Research Methods

LS 507 Information Sources and Services

LS 560 Information Technologies

To fulfill the required management component, M.L.I.S students
must take one of the following courses:


LS 508 Administration and Management

LS 530 Public Libraries

LS 531 Academic Libraries

LS 532 School Media Centers

LS 533 Special Libraries and Information Centers

Students may transfer graduate credit from another university
or other departments. Nine hours of credit is the maximum
that can be applied toward the M.L.I.S. for graduate courses
taken outside the school of Library and Information Studies
(S.L.I.S.), directed- research courses, and internships. Students
may combine these hours as follows:

Six hours of approved credit for graduate
work taken outside S.L.I.S. and 3 hours of credit for a directed-research
course or internship; or:

Six hours of credit for any combination of
directed- research courses and internships and 3 hours of
approved credit for graduate work taken outside S.L.I.S.
