Online MLIS General Requirements
The University of Alabama Graduate School Requirements
Students must complete coursework within the University of Alabama’s Graduate School completion timeframe and fulfill all UA Graduate School requirements. M.L.I.S. Admission Requirements
Applicants should have a:
3.0 grade point average overall or 3.0 G. P. A. for the last 60 semester hours in an undergraduate degree program
minimal score of 300 points (verbal and quantitative) and 4 (analytical) for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). OR
score above the 50th percentile on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT)
GRE or MAT score may be no more than five years old

Online M.L.I.S students are admitted each fall semester
The application deadline is April 1st.
There are no spring or summer admissions for this program.
On campus orientation course requirement:
Students beginning the online master’s program must come to Tuscaloosa, AL, prior to the start of the fall semester for a four-day orientation to the school and program. Students must complete the entire orientation in order to continue the program
Attendance at orientation is mandatory. There are no exceptions.
Courses meet at scheduled times and are delivered via the Web in "real-time" modes; there is extensive use of e-mail, audio and electronic discussion groups, and presentations delivered to the desktop. Students are expected to attend regularly scheduled online sessions.
Students enrolled in the online master's program will have access to the Alabama Virtual Library (AVL).
Costs
For the 2012/2013 school year, the tuition charge is $330 per semester hour for MLIS online students. There is no out-of-state tuition fee. Students enrolled in the MLIS online program are required to meet hardware and software requirements as specified. In addition, access to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) with high-speed broadband internet connection is required.

- e-mail access
- hard-wired broadband internet access (wireless & satellite will not comply)
- an up-to-date operating system (Microsoft Windows XP® or higher, or Mac OSX or higher)
- Firefox® or Microsoft Internet Explorer® or Safari® or the latest Google Chrome® as your browser
- a headset with attached microphone
- a quiet place to “attend” class (virtually) without interruption
